The American magazine Rolling Stone published what is probably the most controversial list in recent times. The publication just listed the top 200 singers in history, some of them traveling through rock ‘n’ roll, but none making the top 10.

The list is headed by soul icon Aretha Franklin, followed by Whitney Houston. Sam Cook closes the podium of the greatest singers of all time.
The highestranked rock representative on the list is John Lennon at number 12. Freddie Mercury is the top 14, Paul McCartney has 26th place, while David Bowie appears at a 32nd place.
Names like Mick Jagger, Robert Plant and Chris Cornell only appear from number 50 onwards. And singers like Eddie Vedder, Roger Daltrey, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford, Axl Rose and Ronnie James Dio are outside the top 100.
Brazilians are also on the list: João Gilberto at No. 81, Gal Cosa at No. 90 and Caetano Veloso at No. 108.
