Frédérike Lachance-Brulotte (@folksandforks): one of the first Quebecers to post recipes on TikTok – Le Journal de Québec

Founder of the food blog people and forksFrédérike Lachance-Brulotte is very successful on Instagram, but especially on TikTok, where more than 221,000 subscribers follow her culinary creations.

In 2018, she started sharing her recipes online. At that time she worked as a receptionist in an insurance company. She quickly caught the attention of internet users, but also advertisers, so that a few months later she was asked for a first contract. She must develop a recipe involving chicken in collaboration with Chicken Farmers of Canada. “I thought, ‘Oh my God! I can get paid for that!” she says.

This is how his passion became his profession and today he earns a “six-figure amount”. “I will say that I was the pioneer in Quebec as a food blogger on TikTok,” says the 31-year-old.

Started in the restaurant business at a young age

It must be said that the culinary creator was immersed in the world of gastronomy from an early age. Her grandparents owned Manoir Breakey in Breakeyville on the south coast of Quebec, where she spent much of her time.

She is the size of three apples and remembers that when she got back from school, she looked behind the scenes at the service and went into the kitchen to help the chef chop the vegetables. “I had a different childhood, I was surrounded by chefs,” she recalls.

The love of cooking… in Nunavik

At the age of 18, she accompanied her parents to work up north in Salluit, where she became a kindergarten teacher. Then she falls in love with an Inuk, from whom she becomes pregnant. As is customary there, she moves in with his in-laws.

“We were about ten people in the house. It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of poverty. I lived with hunters, so there were geese and seals in the fridge,” she says. During preventive work breaks due to her work with young children, she focuses on preparing meals for the household. This is where her great passion for cooking comes from, she says.

A few months later she returned to Quebec to give birth to their now 11-year-old daughter Mathilde.

As a single mother, Frédérike already has an extensive life story that defines her supposed and energetic character.

second book

She is also writing her second Héritage cookbook for Mathilde, which will be published on October 4th.

His trademark: unifying, gourmet and unpretentious dishes. “Home, my friends, my family, we see each other, we eat, we have good food. That’s life for me and now I share that love with people,” she says.
