French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that from January 1, 2023, condoms will be free for young people between the ages of 18 and 25.
«In the pharmacy, condoms will be free for the age group 18-25. We start on January 1st. It’s a small revolution for prevention,” said the French President during a trip to Poitiers.
As early as September 2021, the French government announced free contraception not only for minors but also for women up to the age of 25.
The decision about the mask
Also today, Macron decided to put his anti-Covid mask back on, as he felt it necessary to “get back to normal” in the face of the new surge in Covid-19 infections. “I am following the instructions of my minister,” said the president at a public meeting in Fontaine-Le-Comte near Poitiers, alongside health chief François Braun, who also wore a mask.
“Given the resurgence of the epidemic, I think it’s positive to send a signal because we don’t necessarily want to go back to generalized commitments.” It is therefore “also a way to resort to volunteerism and a sense of responsibility,” added the head of state.
Faced with the ninth wave of coronavirus, which is now being joined by influenza and bronchiolitis, Paris rejects coercive measures but does not rule out tightening the mask should the situation require it. On Sunday evening, in a speech on BFMTV, the health minister made a “solemn appeal” to the most vulnerable to get vaccinated.
