More than 1,240 antiSemitic acts were reported in France last month. According to the New York Times, police arrested 539 people as of November 10th.
President Emmanuel Macron condemned “the unbearable resurgence of rampant antiSemitism.” France. In an open letter published yesterday in the newspaper Le Parisien, he said there would be “no tolerance for the intolerable”.
Macron did not attend the march, but former presidents were present. François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy attended the event. According to the NY Times, celebrities such as actresses Natalie Portman and Charlotte Gainsbourg also attended the demonstration. Leading the march was Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, whose father was a Holocaust survivor.
ProPalestine actions
ProPalestinian demonstrations calling for an end to the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip were held in other European cities. In Cologne, participants gathered in a square between the historic Cologne Cathedral and the train station, carrying Palestinian flags and banners with messages criticizing Israel.
