The 925 French parliamentarians, deputies and senators gathered today in Congress at the Palace of Versailles approved the inclusion of the right to abortion in the Constitution. France is the first country to decide to include voluntary abortion in its basic charter. There were 780 yes votes.

Of the total number of parliamentarians entitled to vote for the constitutional revision today, there were 852. The yes votes were 780 and the no votes were 72. The majority of three-fifths of parliament required for a constitutional change was largely achieved.
At the announcement, there was a very long applause in the Aile du Midi hall of the Palace of Versailles – triggered by the President of the assembled Congress, the President of the Assemblée Nationale, Yael Braun-Pivet.
At the same time, joy exploded at the Place du Trocadéro in Paris, where thousands of people gathered in front of a huge screen linked live to Versailles. At the front, the Eiffel Tower began to sparkle to celebrate the event, while the inscription on the tower lit up: “Mon corps, mon choix,” “my the body, mine the choice.”
