(Portal) – A group of French researchers from the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) won the European Inventor Award 2023 in the Research category of the European Patent Office (EPO) on Tuesday for developing a safe and convenient way of storing hydrogen in solid Shape.

The Grenoble CNRS team, consisting of Patricia de Rango, Daniel Fruchart, Albin Chaise, Michel Jehan and Nataliya Skryabina, was rewarded for developing a method of storing hydrogen in the form of a solid disc, making it safer, more energy efficient and easier to store store and transport.

“Our topic is very important for the future. Energy storage is very important for the future,” said Daniel Fruchart on Tuesday at the awards ceremony in Valencia, Spain.

In this category, the winners competed with German researcher Harald Haas and his system of high-speed Internet transmission using LED lamps, and Icelandic scientists Thorsteinn Loftsson and Einar Stefánsson to develop a non-invasive treatment drops. , which replace injections used for certain eye diseases.

Among the 12 finalists, the French team also won the Audience Award, a title bestowed by netizens.

In the SME category, French biochemist Antoine Hubert’s vertical insect farms Ÿnsect lost to Irish physicists Rhona Togher and Eimear O’Carroll for their development of an advanced acoustic material for noise reduction.

The competition also rewards inventors from “non-EPA member countries”. This year’s winner in this category is Chinese inventor Kai Wu’s team for their work on reducing the risk of explosion in vehicles equipped with lithium-ion batteries.

The competition honors inventors whose innovations aim to respond to major societal challenges. The 12 finalists were selected from more than 600 nominations from around the world.
