From CO2 offsets to contribution requests: ClimatePartner Impact presents alternative concepts for…

Munich (ots) – The market for voluntary climate commitment by companies and organizations is currently in a state of turmoil. While previously the focus was on the goal of achieving their own climate neutrality, companies and organizations are now looking for alternatives to this concept. So-called contribution requests offer a solution to complement CO2 reductions. ClimatePartner Impact, a wholly owned subsidiary of ClimatePartner, has now firmly integrated these new solution approaches into its range of client services and is publishing a white paper on the subject. The white paper illustrates the importance of calls for contributions to global climate protection and can be accessed here.

  • ClimatePartner Impact continues to develop climate protection solutions for companies and defines new, flexible approaches as an alternative to CO2 offsetting.
  • With contribution claims, companies can refocus their climate commitment and thus express their contribution to achieving global climate objectives beyond their own value chain.
  • As an expert in developing climate protection projects, ClimatePartner Impact actively shapes the market and publishes its white paper “Redefining Corporate Climate Action: Shifting from Offsetting to Contribution Claims in the Voluntary Carbon Market”.

Personalized commitment to the financial climate

To date, companies and organizations have mainly offset emissions from their own business activities that they have failed to reduce directly, ton by ton, with Verified Emission Reductions (VER). The contribution claims approach now allows companies and organizations to contribute to global emissions reductions globally, even beyond the carbon footprint of their own value chain. They can also support countries in the Global South in meeting their emissions reduction targets and contributing to sustainable development.

Depending on the company’s strategic objectives, ClimatePartner Impact defines different approaches: “Tone by tone“,”Money per ton” It is “Money for money“. Contribution claims do not always need to be directly linked to the carbon footprint of the contributing organization. In the white paper, climate protection experts at ClimatePartner Impact present a detailed comparison of the three models, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, thus shaping the Actively involved current market developments.

Financing holistic and long-term projects

“With the contribution claims approach, we offer our customers a flexible offer for their voluntary climate commitment – tailored to their respective business objectives. At the same time, we create the opportunity to develop holistic projects with a positive impact on the local population and the environment “go beyond carbon reduction”, said Robin Stoffers, General Director of ClimatePartner Impact. To this end, ClimatePartner Impact develops its own projects that focus heavily on social and ecological benefits or also promote the development of new and innovative technologies.

Various solution approaches for contribution requests are currently being implemented at project level. Together with ClimatePartner and independent stakeholders, ClimatePartner Impact is working on how innovative approaches can be put into practice as a useful tool in the long term.

ClimatePartner sees the contribution claims approach as an additional component of a holistic climate strategy for companies and organizations, in which the CO2 footprint is first calculated, short- and long-term targets are set, and reduction measures are implemented.
