She recently completed her medical degree at the University of Ottawa and will soon continue her studies at Kingston University to specialize in obstetric surgery.
In the meantime, the young woman, who felt called upon, completed her training as a forest firefighter at SOPFEU.
She is currently awaiting deployment at a firefighting site in Quebec.
“My mother had contacted me and told me that the air was no longer breathable. She sent me lots of pictures of the smoke. “It got me,” says Carlie.
At the same time, Ms Boisvert, who already has rescue training, said she received a call from the Quebec Association of Search and Rescue Volunteers (AQBRS), Outaouais Division, to improve her skills.
“I feel ready, SOPFEU trained and looked after us very well. I have to say there is a little excitement, I can’t wait to be able to help my region and hometown. There is still some concern because we don’t know what to expect once we get there. It can be quite impressive to see the flames,” she said.
