From Juliette Binoche to Isabelle Huppert: French actresses cut their hair in solidarity with Iranian women

The video follows the appeal launched on Tuesday by around a thousand French cinema personalities “in support of the women’s revolt in Iran”. Dubbed “Femme, Vie Liberte” – after the slogan chanted in recent days at demonstrations in Iran and in the squares of many cities around the world – the appeal was supported by hundreds of big screen professionals, such as director Jacques Audiard, signed actresses Isabelle Hupppert, Lea Seydoux, Marion Cotillard or the actor and director Louis Garrel.

In the document, sent to the France Presse agency, hundreds of signatories express their “support to the Iranian women who are today fighting for their freedom at the risk of their lives, and to the Iranian people who are courageously supporting the revolt.” And once again: “We ask all those who oppose the assassination of Mahsa Amini and the massive, brutal and murderous repression ordered by the Iranian authorities to express their solidarity with the Iranian people in a strong and clear way.”

“The universal struggle for women, for life and for freedom is also our struggle,” underline the French stars. Today even the French Parliament observed a minute’s silence in honor of the victims of the repression in Iran, while last Sunday thousands of people demonstrated on the Place de la Republique in the heart of Paris, shouting “Donna, Vita, Liberta”.
