Files on the war between Ukraine and RussiaThe paramilitary group led by Yevgeny Prigoyine, which was at war with the Russian military staff, made its way to the Russian capital after seizing control of Rostov.
The statements and historic coup of Yevgeny Prigoyine against the Russian military command soon had repercussions on Russian territory. During the night of Friday 23 to Saturday 24 June, while Kiev was in full counter-offensive, Wagner militia mercenaries stationed in Ukraine entered Russian territory.
This Saturday, most of the events will take place between Rostov in the south-west of the country and Moscow. The axis of the M4 motorway is of strategic importance, connecting the two cities and could allow Wagner’s troops to reach the Kremlin.
On the map above (if it is not shown, click here) appears Rostov, the headquarters of the Headquarters of the Russian Army’s Southern Command, from which military operations in Ukraine are coordinated. It is therefore the nerve center of Russian operations in Ukraine. In the morning, Evguéni Prigojine appeared in front of the city’s military headquarters and assured that he had taken control of it.
Russia has strengthened security in Moscow, Rostov, but also in the Lipetsk region.
The Russian army is also conducting “combat operations” in the Voronezh region, which borders Ukraine and is about 600 km south of Moscow, local authorities reported. Russian authorities said later in the day they were fighting a major fire that broke out at a fuel depot in Voronezh, the capital of the region of the same name, halfway between Rostov and Moscow, where the presence of the Wagner paramilitary group was reportedly reported .
