José Roberto Burnier announced on Friday (29) his state of health after suffering a heart attack and undergoing emergency heart surgery. The SP1 and SP2 presenter felt chest pain during his New Year's shift at Globo. This Monday (1st) he was in bed in the Sírio Libanês Hospital in São Paulo.
The journalist made a threefinger sign and said he was fine. “I gained my third life, thank God! Thank you for the messages of support. Great 2024 for everyone!” wrote the moderator in the Instagram post.
The 63yearold presenter is away from the station indefinitely while he recovers. For the TV newsGlobo Communications reported that another professional has been appointed to replace him. “The Sírio Libanês Hospital has already issued a medical bulletin with details on his health condition. In his absence, Bruno Tavares will present SP2.”
According to sources in the report, after presenting SP2, Burnier felt chest pains and went to the hospital. He underwent tests, discovered that the heart's main artery was completely blocked, and rushed into surgery.
Given the extent of the blockage in the artery, the journalist told friends he suspected he had already told two newspapers he was having a heart attack. SírioLibanês reported that he suffered an acute heart attack, which resulted in hospitalization.
“He underwent cardiac catheterization which revealed occlusion of the anterior descending coronary artery and angioplasty of this artery with stenting was performed. The procedure was successful and the patient is stable and has been admitted to the coronary care unit,” the hospital team said.
José Roberto Burnier was scheduled for Globo's New Year's Eve shift. On December 27, 28 and 29, he anchored local news programs in São Paulo. On the 30th, Ana Paula Campos replaced him. The broadcaster did not provide an explanation about the change.
He has taken over SP2 since April 2022, following the dismissal of Carlos Tramontina. Burnier presented Conexão GloboNews and was transferred to Open TV. In 2019, the communicator even requested a medical leave of absence to treat cancer at the base of the tongue and returned in 2020 after curing the disease.
