Frontier League Series: The Capitals’ first game was suspended

Heavy rains forced the Frontier Baseball League to suspend the first game of the playoff series between the Quebec Capitales and the New Jersey Jackals on Thursday night.

The game had already started an hour late due to rain, and in the fifth inning it was the Lightning that came into play at Skylands Stadium. The Capitals led 2-1 in this encounter.

Shortly before hostilities began, the images from the sky did not bode well.

Play was scheduled to resume on Friday, the day the two teams were scheduled to travel to Quebec. The Eastern Conference Finals series will be played in a two-out-of-three format. The Capitals and Jackals are scheduled to face off at Stade Canac on Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Quebec took the lead in the third inning when outfielder Tommy Seidl hit a long solo ball. New Jersey responded with a run on its turn, but Juremi Profar gave his team the lead again with a single to center field. Justin Gideon crossed the plate.

The Capitals begin their defense of the championship title they earned last year. Like them, the Jackals finished with a 60-35 record but finished second in the Eastern Conference as Quebec won most of their matchups this season. The New Jersey representatives met the Sussex County Miners (55-40) on Tuesday to secure their place in the group finals. They easily defeated the latter with a score of 5 to 0.

In the west, the Gateway Grizzlies battle with the Evansville Otters. The grand finale, a three-out-of-five, begins next Tuesday.
