Snowmobilers who venture onto the ice must remain vigilant, Ontario police have warned, urging caution after two incidents.
HAS”[Nous recommandons] Snowmobilers and ice fishermen are asked to exercise caution on frozen lakes or ponds. Fluctuating temperatures can make ice unstable and brittle, leading to dangerous accidents. No ice is safe ice,” Ontario Police (OPP) wrote in a message posted on X on Saturday.

The day before, a snowmobiler drove through the ice near the North Bay Marina in northeastern Ontario. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was submerged, North Bay police said.
That same evening, police were called to Lake Nipissing after a snowmobiler returning from fishing also crossed the ice.
“Check conditions before heading out onto area lakes,” North Bay police also responded.
