Frozen pineapple products sold at major grocers recalled over possible Listeria contamination

In The Claman Countdown, Stew Leonard’s President and CEO, Stew Leonard Jr., discusses why consumers are still paying the highest price for groceries even as inflation eases.

Certain frozen fruit products are being recalled by major grocery stores across the country, including Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target, Aldi and AWG (Associated Wholesale Grocers), according to a recall notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

SunOpta Inc.’s subsidiary, Sunrise Growers Inc., has issued a voluntary recall of certain frozen fruit products containing pineapple due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The pathogen can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and other people with compromised immune systems, the release said.

“Healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” the recall notice said. “Listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.”
