FSIS Issues Public Health Alert for Fresh Chicken and Ham

FSIS Issues Health Warning for Frozen Mushroom Risotto Products Due to Misbranding and Undeclared Allergens | Food Safety and Inspection Service – fsis.usda.gov

WASHINGTON, January 5, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a health alert for frozen mushroom risotto products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The product labeled as Porcini Mushroom Risotto Bites may actually contain hot dogs in puff pastry that contain sesame, a known allergen that is not listed on the product label. FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers with an allergy to sesame know that these products should not be consumed. A recall has not been requested because the product is no longer available for purchase.

The frozen Porcini Mushroom Risotto Bites packages, which may actually contain hot dogs in the puff pastry, were made on April 11, 2023. The following product is subject to the health warning [view labels]:

  • 7.5 ounces. Cardboard packaging with “Wild Fork Porcini Mushroom Risotto Bites” with batch code 101231, “Best before: 10/11/2024” and EST. 39896 on the side of the box.

The products bear the company number “EST. 39896” on the side of the box. There is no USDA inspection mark. These items were shipped to retail locations in California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.

The problem was discovered after the company told the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it had received a consumer complaint saying the hot dogs in puff pastry products were in packaging labeled “Mushroom Risotto -Happchen” was found. The FDA then notified FSIS of the problem.

There are no confirmed reports of side effects from consuming these products. Anyone who is concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the point of purchase.
