UFC 289 made for a night to remember as the GOAT retired from the sport with both title belts intact after another dominant performance.
The famous Amanda Nunes headlined UFC 289 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, made her opponent Irene Aldana look like she didn’t belong, and then retired as the greatest fighter of all time.
After reclaiming the belt and avenging a submission loss to Julianna Peña last summer, Nunes secured her first bantamweight title defense over Aldana on Saturday with a unanimous decision. Nunes won every round on all three judges’ scorecards. Then, during her post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, she announced her retirement from mixed martial arts with a smile on her face.
Saturday’s pay-per-view also featured the highly anticipated fight between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush. On paper, the lightweight showdown was the most interesting and potentially exciting fight of the night, and it worked.
Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion, bounced back from his title loss to Islam Makhachev last October with a first-round win over Dariush, who had entered the fight on an eight-fight win streak.
This is how the evening went:
