The public ceremony is planned at the Père-Lachaise cemetery, said Laurence Honnorat with his family.

Hubert Reeves, who died in Paris aged 91, was a master storyteller of the history of the universe, known around the world for his popular work on the cosmos.

His quote “To look into the distance is to look early” to evoke spacetime is an example of this.

The French-Canadian scientist, who looked like a Gallic druid, was also a passionate defender of the planet.

When he became president of the Humanity and Biodiversity Association in 2001, he continued to warn about the massacre of species and global warming and challenge politicians.
