It’s a horrifying family drama that hit the clan of Baron Guy Ullens von Schooten Whettnall a few days ago. The wealthy 88-year-old man from the Belgian aristocracy saw before his eyes his wife Myriam dying, murdered by his own son Nicolas. The murder took place on March 29 near the family home in Ohain, in the Lasne region of Belgium. The funeral of Baroness Myriam Ullens de Schooten also took place in this city this Friday, April 7th. Family and friends gathered at the church in Ohain for a maximum capacity of 200 people. A difficult meeting for Baron Guy Ullens von Schooten Whettnall, devastated by the brutal and cruel loss of his wife.
The baron, despite being in very poor health, gave a magnificent speech in honor of his wife during the ceremony. Neither of his two remaining children (Nicolas was jailed for murder) attended.
Among the relatives who came to support the Baron was Gilles Lemaire, husband of French actress Reem Kherici and son of the Baroness Myriam, who came with his sister Virginie, both well hidden under the umbrellas at the exit to brave the rain . At the side of the family was Sylvie Rousseau, who is very close to the deceased today in communications consulting. Queen Mathilde, who is also one of Myriam’s closest circle, could not make the trip, she is in Spain with her family. Louis-Michel Colla, director of the Théâtre de la Gaîté-Montparnasse and the Théâtre des Mathurins in Paris, also wanted to be present with his wife Angélique. Ségolène Frère and her husband Ian Gallienne, head of Brussels’ Lambert Financial Group, also shared the pain of loved ones, alongside John Alexander Bogaerts, fashion designer Edouard Vermeulen and businessman Maurice Lippens.
The fruit of revenge?
The drama dates back to March 29th. Although Nicolas, one of Baron Guy Ullens of Schooten Whettnall’s four children, never appreciated his mother-in-law Myriam, hatred reached a new level after the announcement of the sale of the family home. He, who described his father’s new wife as “terrible”, was convinced that she wanted to gamble away the fortune and inheritance originally intended for her with her sister Brigitte.
When not invited on family vacations or granted favors on their travels to all corners of the world, Myriam’s children, Gilles Lemaire and Virginie, enjoyed maisonettes, luxurious accommodations and a huge boat. Hearing that the family home was therefore up for sale changed everything. According to the story shared by Paris Match, Nicolas would have kissed the baroness on the forehead, who was unaccustomed to her son-in-law’s affectionate gestures. According to a relative of the couple, it was actually a “Judas kiss” as he murdered him minutes later. Nicolas is waiting at the entrance of the house and sees Myriam’s car getting out. He rushes towards her to stop her before getting out of his vehicle and shooting his stepmother through the windshield multiple times. His father, sitting on the passenger side, watches the whole scene and ends up bleeding from his face, which is spattered by the impact of the bullets his wife received. Nicolas went to the police station himself before being charged. He was remanded in custody for murder, but is presumed innocent… pending trial in this sad matter.
