Futurama voice actor John DiMaggio has officially joined the revival of Hulu in his favorite animated sci-fi comedy series, ending a long and bitter saga known as #Bendergate.
“I’m back, darling! I’m so damn grateful for the love and support of both fans and colleagues all this time (especially my wife Kate) and I can’t wait to get back to work with my Futurama family,” Di said. Maggio in a statement: “#Bendergate is officially over, so put it on the back of a shelf behind Christmas decorations, or maybe in that kitchen drawer with all the other nonsense you put there like old useless crazy glue, or maybe even put it in You save farts. Whatever’s floating in your boat, I don’t care, you know. I’m back, darling! GIVE ME THE GLOSSY METAL ASS! “
When the revival was announced in February, fans were intimidated when DiMaggio’s name was not on the list of returning original cast members. DiMaggio thanked fans for their support, later saying he believed he and the rest of the cast deserved to be paid more than what was offered to him for returning to the show.
Actors from the original series Billy West, Katie Sagal, Tres McNeill, Maurice Lamarche, Lauren Tom, Phil Lamar and David Herman are also back.
“From the moment John DiMaggio auditioned last century, we knew we had our Bender,” said Matt Groening. “So congratulations to everyone at Futurama. We’re all back, darling! ”
“John DiMaggio may be a great robot, but he’s also a great man,” added David X. Cohen, Futurama’s executive producer. “Not many people or machines can say that. For the fourth time, it’s a thrill to come back once in a lifetime with all our original cast and phenomenal animators from Rough Draft Studios! ”
Hulu took 20 episodes of the new iteration of Futurama, which comes from Groening and Cohen. Production is underway and the show is expected to debut in 2023. 20th Television Animation is producing Futurama with Rough Draft Studios, Inc., which contributes to the animation.
Futurama focuses on the life of Philip Fry (West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery man who accidentally freezes on December 31, 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a new beginning in life and a new group of friends, including Lila. Sagal), a tough but wonderful one-eyed mutant, and Bender (Di Maggio), a robot who likes to drink excessively, smoke cigars and steal everything that is not nailed down.
This is the second time the show has returned since it originally launched in 1999. After its initial four-season broadcast on Fox, the show’s reruns have found new life as part of Adult Swim’s Cartoon Network and DVD. Four direct-to-video films were then produced, which were later re-edited in the fifth season, which aired on Comedy Central in 2008. Comedy Central will continue to air two more seasons, consisting of 26 episodes each between 2010 and 2013. d.
