Last season we learned that Christophe, played by Roy Dupuis, was attacked by his mother when he was younger. To keep his sanity, Christophe has a fictitious discussion in his head with his deceased sister. “The big question we ask ourselves at the end of the first season is: Did Christophe have the courage to kill his mother?” mentions the screenwriter.

Additionally, Gabrielle (Eve Landry) recognized at the parole board this fall that Christophe was following his father psychologically. For Gabrielle, in a way it is as if Christophe is coming to the aid of his father, who, let's remember, murdered his mother with a meat tenderizer. “These two characters are already having difficulty understanding each other. “Imagine how much that will fuel the fire,” she says. Gabrielle's father is also released on parole at the beginning of the season. “The commission will say that his father does not pose a danger to society. For Gabrielle, this is only dangerous for one person: herself.” The author states that this issue will torment our dear Crown Prosecutor throughout the season.

NEW DRAMAS

The final season of A Beating Heart ends with the murder of Nicolas (Jules Powers) by Stéphane (Jean-Michel Anctil), who could not digest the small punishment his son-in-law received for murdering his daughter. “So in the second season we are confronted with a violent man who has killed another violent man,” emphasizes Ms. Trottier. However, it is still an intra-family violence since it concerns his stepson.” We will then discover Stéphane's psychological process linked to his anger over the murder of his daughter.

At the same time, Annie Briand (Lynda Johnson) is bedridden due to a degenerative disease. She can no longer use her legs. Laurent Lenoir (André Robitaille) therefore has to become a carer, which he doesn't like. “We will see violence, but this time without screams and without punches,” says the screenwriter. The purpose of this story is to show violence in all its forms, no matter how it manifests itself.

Another difficult case will be that of Laura (Ève Lemieux), a young woman who is giving birth to her third child and will suffer the violence of her partner Gaston (Olivier Barrette). “We will see a family that lacks resources, receives no help and has been reported to the DPJ – but nothing is moving on this front. This time it will be violence against children,” says the scriptwriter.

KEEP TALKING ABOUT VIOLENCE

Even though the central theme concerns violent men, Ms. Trottier wants to highlight all types of violence. “It's an issue close to my heart because half of Quebec's population is affected by violence,” says the screenwriter. You, me, your neighbor, we all witness violence every day and we don't notice it because we have normalized it. We tolerate it too much.” Danielle Trottier takes her role as an author seriously to raise awareness of this issue. “I get a lot of messages from people telling me that they are realizing so many things. Sometimes television series are also used for this!” She comes to the conclusion.
