Samsung will launch a new series of high-end smartphones in 2024, the Galaxy S24. Design, screens, features, camera, performance, autonomy, One UI: here is everything you need to know about these three smartphones that promise to become benchmarks for Android.

- The Galaxy S24
- The Galaxy S24+
- The Galaxy S24 Ultra
📅 When will the Galaxy S24s be released?
In recent years, Samsung has launched a new Galaxy S series in the first or second month of the year. The previous Galaxy S22 and S23 both launched in February, and the new Galaxy S24 models could have a slight head start in 2024.
If you believe a report from the famous leaker Ice Universe on the Chinese social network Weibo, the Galaxy S24 could come onto the market on January 18th next year. This rumor was confirmed by a report stating that Samsung’s manufacturing partners plan to start mass production a month earlier than usual.
We also know that other manufacturers such as Xiaomi will also prefer to introduce their own smartphones. Qualcomm’s annual conference is in question, which is scheduled a little earlier than in previous years, namely from the end of October. It will be an opportunity to discover the new high-end chip that will power the high-end Android smartphones of this generation.
💰 What are the prices of the Galaxy S24?
The prices for the next Galaxy S24 are a mystery for now and it is probably too early for Samsung to finalize the price list for its next smartphones. The Korean giant had significantly increased the prices of previous generation smartphones, so we don’t really expect another increase this year.

While Apple has even lowered the prices of its latest iPhone 15, it’s hard to imagine Samsung raising its prices as that could significantly reduce the appeal of its smartphones. We therefore hope that Samsung at least maintains its prices, because that would position the Galaxy S24 Ultra just below the iPhone 15 Pro Max (1,469 euros) and the Galaxy S24 a few euros less than the iPhone 15 (969 euros).
📱 WHAT DOES THE GALAXY S24 LOOK LIKE?
Samsung has been trying to standardize the design of its smartphones for years. Whether it’s a high-end smartphone or a cheaper model, a Samsung device is easy to recognize at first glance. It’s no surprise that the Galaxy S24s will therefore inherit the iconic designs of previous generations.
On the back we still find vertically arranged cameras on all models and a more angular design on the Ultra model that is reminiscent of the old Galaxy Note. The latter is always accompanied by a stylus, which is kept in a place at the bottom left of the smartphone. However, we can still expect some design changes across all devices.

As usual, French leaker OnLeaks has already revealed 3D renderings of the three phones in advance. As you can see in the images, the smallest models Galaxy S24 and S24+ will use flat edges inspired by the iPhone this time.
This allows Samsung to reduce the width of the devices in particular. With the Galaxy S24 you have to expect dimensions of 147 × 70.6 × 7.6 mm and 158.5 × 75.9 × 7.7 mm. The devices will therefore be slightly longer and their thickness will be almost identical. The flat edges give Samsung the opportunity to place an Ultra WideBand antenna on the side below the power button. They are therefore perfectly compatible with Samsung’s latest trackers, the Galaxy SmartTag 2.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra will also flatten out, but that won’t be good news for all users. The smartphone this year will opt for a 2.5D flat screen, ditching the iconic curved screen that made the series famous. This not only makes the Galaxy S24 Ultra longer, but also wider, because Samsung has decided to standardize the size of the edges around the screen. We have to expect dimensions of 162.3 x 79 x 8.6 mm, compared to 163.3 x 78 x 8.9 mm previously. Although this makes the smartphone more complicated to handle, we can rest assured that it will lose some thickness.

As for the materials used, all Galaxy S24s appear to use a new frame partially forged from titanium. In contrast to the iPhone 15, the smartphones unfortunately don’t really lose weight, which is probably due to the type of alloy used. The Galaxy S24s will weigh 168 grams, 195 grams and 233 grams respectively.
Finally, note that the smartphones are always IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. The strength of the devices shouldn’t differ significantly, they will most likely still be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the company’s strongest yet. We expect multiple colors for the Galaxy S24 and S24+, as well as more different colors for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

🔲WHICH SCREEN FOR THE GALAXY S24?
The Galaxy S24s will still benefit from different screen sizes, but Samsung will make some changes in this area. Firstly, as we saw above, all will have flat screens rather than curved screens. This time, the classic Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are entitled to slightly larger screens with a diagonal of 6.2 inches (FHD+) and 6.7 inches (QHD+) compared to 6.8 inches (QHD+) on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Above all, Samsung will equip its Galaxy S24s with significantly better screens than the Galaxy S23s. These are new generation M13 OLED panels, which, as always, promise ever more lifelike colors, lower energy consumption and higher brightness. The latter reaches no less than 2500 nits at its peak in all models, whereas previously you had to make do with “only” 1750 nits.
More good news is that all Galaxy S24s will finally benefit from LTPO technology, previously reserved for the Ultra model. This allows you to dynamically vary the refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz depending on the content being displayed to save energy.

For biometric authentication, Samsung continues to use the same ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the screen, but users can also opt for facial recognition if they wish.
🚀HOW PERFORMANCE FOR THE GALAXY S24?
Historically, Samsung has always launched its latest Galaxy smartphones in Europe with its in-house Exynos chips, with the exception of the Galaxy S23, which all arrived with SoCs from Qualcomm. The Galaxy S24s should go back to basics as we expect Exynos chips in Europe this time, at least for certain models. If you believe certain leaks, only the S24 and S24+ models have it, with the Ultra version having a Snapdragon SoC.
This isn’t really good news for the performance of the two smaller models. Exynos chips have a pretty bad reputation, especially because of their worse performance compared to their Qualcomm counterparts, but also because of higher consumption and higher temperatures.

If you believe an initial benchmark, the Exynos 2400’s GPU would only achieve 1656 points in a Vulkan 1.3 test, while the Galaxy S23’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieved 1746 points. The graphics part could therefore be less interesting, but the chip could catch up in the CPU part thanks to a new configuration with 10 cores compared to 8 cores. There is a main core at 3.21 GHz, two cores at 2.90 GHz, three cores at 2.59 GHz and 4 cores at 1.96 GHz.
However, whether this is enough to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is questionable. A Geekbench benchmark revealed that it will consist of 8 cores with higher frequencies (one Cortex-X4 core at 3.30 GHz, 3 Cortex-A720 cores at 3.15 GHz, 2 Cortex-A720 cores at 2, 96 GHz and 2 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.96 GHz). A530 cores at 2.27 GHz). This is expected to be the higher frequency customized “For Galaxy” version, which would further increase the performance difference between all models. The chip could score more than 2300 points on one core and more than 7300 points on all cores in Geekbench. On Vulkan (Geekbench 6.2.0) the GPU would achieve 17,134 points, which is a whopping 70% more than the previous generation.
🔋 BATTERY, AUTONOMY AND CHARGING OF THE GALAXY S24
The battery capacity of the Galaxy S24 will increase again in 2024, but not for all models. The small Galaxy S24 will have its battery increased to 4000 mAh (+100 mAh), while the Galaxy S24+ will house a 4900 mAh battery (+200 mAh) this time. For its part, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will continue to rely on the same 5000 mAh battery.

As far as charging is concerned, you shouldn’t expect any major changes. The Galaxy S24 would still be limited to just 25W, while the Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra are allowed to have 45W. This is little if you compare it with Chinese smartphones, which every year try to beat the previous record in this area. Wireless charging is limited to 15W. Some rumors report the introduction of 65W wired fast charging on the Ultra model, but the smartphone is unlikely to have been certified by various organizations for such performance.
Due to the small increase in battery capacity and lower screen and processor consumption, we expect the Galaxy S24 to offer slightly improved battery life compared to the previous generation, but these gains are likely to be more moderate on the Ultra model, which benefits the least Changes.
📸 THE GALAXY S24 CAMERA
The photography part of the Galaxy S24 and S24+ will not be fundamentally different from what we find on the Galaxy S23. The two smartphones continue to benefit from the same sensors. We expect a 50 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

This year it is the Galaxy S24 Ultra whose photography part brings the most new features. The main sensor will still be the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2, but thanks to some optimizations it will be slightly better than the previous generation.
It will be supported by a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, which are expected to be the same as the S23 Ultra. Finally, the lot is completed by a fourth periscope sensor, which will also be modified. Instead of opting for a 10x optical zoom, as has been the case since the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung is instead going for a simple 5x optical zoom. The larger sensor measures 1/2.52 inches and offers 50 MP, compared to 10 MP in the previous generation. We should therefore be entitled to shots from a distance with more detail.
Galaxy S24: Which Android and One UI versions?
The Galaxy S24 will launch with One UI 6.0, the new version of the manufacturer’s overlay based on Android 14. As always, this new version promises to improve the user experience with new features and fix the problems of the previous version. Here are the most interesting new features:
Redesigned quick control panel
The most notable change in One UI 6 is the new Quick Settings layout. It now looks like stock Android, with larger, easily accessible options. However, one-handed operation can be a bit difficult due to the full-screen usage.
Freely moving clock on the lock screen
Unlike One UI 5, where the options for placing the clock widget on the lock screen were limited, One UI 6 allows you to reposition it freely. This feature is handy for making sure the clock doesn’t obscure important parts of your wallpaper.
New media player
The notification panel and lock screen now feature a revamped media player, similar in design to Android 13 but with improvements including song art display and an animated progress bar.
Separate battery settings
Battery settings have been separated from device care in One UI 6, allowing you to access battery information directly from the settings menu.
Gallery improvement
One UI 6’s Gallery app offers new editing options including Object Eraser, Remaster and Portrait Effect. It also introduces the ability to use both hands for drag-and-drop functionality. Additionally, image editing is made easier with a new layout of editing tools and options appear side by side instead of stacked. One UI 6 also includes a dedicated editing feature called Samsung Studio, which brings more powerful editing features directly to your phone. You can access it from the drawer menu in the Gallery app or add it as a shortcut on the home screen.
Other notable changes include a new font, the ability to drag application icons with one hand and move from one side of the screen to another with the other. Home page, the removal of the terms “Galaxy” or “Samsung” for pre-installed applications or even new emojis.
