Galaxy Z Fold 5: Why this stolen photo hints at a major improvement – Frandroid

A possible prototype of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could have been seen at CES around the Samsung conference. A photo shows it next to a Galaxy Z Fold 4, showing the clear change in dimensions.

It has been rumored for a few days that Samsung is finally taking the step of the teardrop hinge on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The idea is simple: let the internal screen close completely, leaving no space.

Almost two days after this first leak, a photo appeared in a post on the Korean blog Naver. According to its author, the snapshot was taken during CES 2023 around the Samsung conference. It is supposed to show a Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the left and the prototype of a Galaxy Z Fold 5 on the right.

Clutter would change completely

Before we even describe what we’re seeing there, let’s ask the following: the fact that it might be a prototype leaves room for development. But from what we see we can see two things about the hinge: the possibility of completely closing the device seems confirmed and its format could change.

The term “Flex S” can also be seen in the background, indicating that the photo was taken at Samsung Display’s booth. However, Samsung’s display division supplies many smartphone manufacturers and offers different concepts that manufacturers can take up and improve. If the Samsung display has a thin bend on one of its prototypes, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Samsung Electronics will adopt it for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Smartphones are always about compromise. The Galaxy Fold-style folders, with their high prices and very professional aims, are no exception. And if the solution apparently chosen by Samsung allowed to erase the gap between the two parts of the screen once closed, we can still see that the bulk of the phone would take the lead: the smartphone looks much wider. Perhaps the hinge has nothing to do with it and it’s more a desire from Samsung to change its screen format for a better experience.
