Studio A24 announced the development of a liveaction film based on the game “Death Stranding.” The game's creator, Hideo Kojima, will be in charge of production.

According to the official statement, the film promises to delve into the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic event known as Death Stranding, “which blurred the boundaries between life and death and brought fearsome creatures into a world on the brink of collapse.”

In a statement published by A24, Kojima praised the quality of the studio's films in “Everything in Every Place at the Same Time,” winner of the 2022 Oscar. “I was drawn to their creations and they inspired my own work. The innovative approach.” “The storytelling fits what Kojima Productions has been doing for eight years. Now let’s make the Death Stranding movie together.”

The game and its creator

Hideo Kojima is a worldrenowned game developer. After the success he achieved with the “Metal Gear” franchise at Konami, he founded his own studio, Kojima Productions, in 2015 and in 2020 received the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest honor that BAFTA gives to an individual for exceptional contributions to films , games or TV.

The Death Stranding game received several gaming awards after its debut on PlayStation and was followed in September 2021 by Death Stranding Director's Cut, an expansion to the gaming experience that offers more action, expanded areas, expanded stories and an exclusive Social Strand system , which allows people to make connections around the world through ingame actions.

In the game's plot, society was splintered after a catastrophic event called “Death Stranding”, which opened a door between the living and the dead, allowing supernatural creatures to roam the shattered world. With the disjointed remnants of humanity's future in his hands, protagonist Sam Bridges sets out on a mission to bring hope and connect the last survivors of a decimated America.

“Death Stranding” had an outstanding cast that lent not only their voices to their characters, but also their physiognomy.

The protagonist is played by Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead”) and the cast also includes Mads Mikkelsen (“Hannibal”), Léa Seydoux (“007 No Time to Die”), Margaret Qualley (“Maid”) and even the Director Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”). It was unclear whether the game's cast would return for the film adaptation.

There is no release date for the “Death Stranding” film yet.
