After more than three years of delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the long-awaited competitive esports series Gamemaster is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video this summer.
Filming is finally slated to begin this spring in Atlanta, followed by 12 elite players who will compete for the $1 million prize…which is a tenfold increase from the original $100,000 offer.
The series was originally scheduled to be screened at the 2020 SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, but the festival was shut down just days before due to COVID-19.
Wheaton, the 50-year-old former child star of hits like Stand By Me, and showrunner Jacquie Dincauze (The Amazing Race) are still fully committed to the series despite three-year delays, can reveal.
Players will not only compete for the inaugural Gamemaster title and $1 million prize, but also for an elite gaming and streaming system from AMD, Micro Center and Xidax.

Gamemaster was one of hundreds of film and television productions to shut down due to the pandemic, but now it’s back and bigger than ever.
“The pandemic has started shutting down productions and events around the world just weeks before we were supposed to be filming,” said series creator and executive producer John Colp.
“It was heartbreaking at the time. We’re proud to be one of the few season one shows to survive and even grow,” he added.
“We are thrilled to be Gamemaster’s retail sponsor. We are confident that Gamemaster, with its unique format and challenges, will captivate players across the country and become a must-watch series,” added Rick Mershad, CEO of Micro Center.
The series follows 12 of America’s top amateur gamers as they compete in 25 games over 10 episodes to find the ultimate Gamemaster.
Eighteen game developers from around the world have worked with developers to create specific challenges in new titles and classic popular games.
For the first time in a competitive gaming series, contestants will play PC, console and mobile games.
11 of the players have already been selected and will be announced in the near future, although the 11th and final player could ultimately be you.

The show’s theme song was created by Punk Rock Factory, a Welsh punk rock group known for their punk covers of everything from Disney and Broadway songs to Michael Jackson and Men at Work.
Peach Maria Productions CEO and Gamemaster co-creator Laurie Lockliear collaborated with them for SXSW in 2022 when they created a mash-up of nineteen video game themes called Round 1, Fight, which you can see in the video below.
“They’re incredibly creative, extremely musical, and they approach every song with the energy of toddlers on a sugar rush!” says Lockliear.
“We were so inspired by their playful, rocking approach to some of our favorite gaming themes – we decided to create a video press release in the style of old-school pop-up videos. The PRF theme song for GM is awesome – but we’re keeping it until the season starts,” added Lockliear.
Punk Rock Factory produced the original music video and Lucky Axolotl Creative Studio and Peach Maria Productions created the pop-up video.
