The PNC conducted an operation this Saturday afternoon that made it possible to locate several weapons used by gang groups in a sector of this municipality, in the Department of San Salvador, where about 10,000 soldiers are participating in a siege as part of the fifth phase of the Area Control Plan (PCT).
The weapons, a pistol, a revolver, chargers and ammunition were found near a garbage dump in the Las Margaritas urbanization.
During the operations against the gangs, the authorities seized AK-47 assault rifles, grenades, a rocket launcher, sniper rifles and other war equipment.
Soyapango, considered El Salvador’s industrial city, has been surrounded by 8,500 soldiers and 1,500 PNC agents since December 3, after the country’s President Nayib Bukele announced 10 days ago that military fences would be erected in communities.
Previously, in October, the municipality of Comasagua, in the department of La Libertad, served as the scene for testing these operations. Then two thousand soldiers and PNC tactical teams surrounded this perimeter to capture the killer of a farmer in this area and stop the actions of the group “Witmer Locos Salvatruchos” from the MS13 Libertad program.
Since the application of the exceptional regime, the authorities have arrested around 63,000 people, including gang members and suspected collaborators.
