Gary Núñez, President of Plena Libre, faces the fight against cancer

The leader of the Plena Libre group, Gary Núñez, announced this afternoon his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The communication took place through a message in the form of a letter to the public, which accompanies him in his long career bringing our music to the whole world.

“Dear friends. Life sometimes surprises us and presents us with challenges that we never thought we would face. Today it is my turn to face an enormous challenge that I have overcome because of the love that I feel for the entire Puerto Rican people and want to share with you because of the support I have received from you for decades. After an extensive list of studies and medical examinations, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few days ago. Together with my wife Valerie, my children LuisGa, Adriana and Joel and the team of specialists who care for me, we are addressing the situation and doing our best to overcome this setback. “There is life,” emphasizes the musician, before announcing that Plena Libre’s commitments will not be changed.

“Plena Libre continues its full-time work schedule under the leadership of my son LuisGa, as he has done in recent months. These days we have commitments here in Puerto Rico and in our brother country, Colombia. Plena Libre continues and will continue to bring joy to the public, now with greater effort than ever before, because we are and will remain the flag bearers of the Plena of Puerto Rico. Plena Libre is not going away, Plena Libre continues,” emphasized Núñez.

The musical director welcomes the good wishes in this new battle for his health and announced that he will inform the public about his progress through the media. “Today I ask you for some space for me and my family to cope with this unforeseen event. Now the hill is getting steeper and we will fight the battle and sing my song that Puerto Rico has made its own: I go up, I go down, if you live the way I live, I live hesitantly… Let’s live to the fullest, let’s embrace each other: tomorrow morning, tomorrow morning, fill your house with flowers, the Virgin of Sorrows will surely visit you…” he concluded in the message from relationship specialist Julio Núñez.
