Gas Prices Drop Locally & Nationally

Gas prices continue to fall across the country, as they do here in North Carolina.

Average on Sunday? 4.19 a gallon.

Lower than last week and they keep falling!

Gas prices across the country continue to trend downward. And everyone notices.

Gas prices have fallen steadily over the past month, according to the AAA. National average on Sunday? 4.53 a gallon.

That’s seven cents less than on Thursday.

Andrea Masi is a mom and not driving a car is not an option for her.

“I have two kids, so I have to take them everywhere, so I have no way of having gas,” Masi said. “I probably fill up once a week.”

Winston Mathamba agrees.

“What aren’t we driving? It’s a necessity,” Mathamba said.

He also refills every week.

“I don’t usually let it get to where I need a full tank, so half a tank is about $50 now,” Mathamba said.

But he says, luckily for him, he has another option

“We’re lucky to have a two-car household. We have a hybrid, so we’re leaning a little more on that car just to adjust,” Mathamba said. “It’s finally nice. It’s still high, but it’s so much better.”

Masi says that when things pick up again, it won’t just be the local drivers who are badly off.

“It would hurt a lot of people. It would also hurt a lot of businesses because people would limit a lot of things, especially travel, camping, you to engage in carpooling,” Masi said.

Various factors such as inflation and eventual hurricanes could influence these falling prices.
