The price of natural gas in Europe, all after last week’s extremely bearish prices. In fact, the price at the Amsterdam reference node rose again shortly after the start of trading to over 100 euros per megawatt hour, a few minutes before 9 a.m. with a jump to 103 megawatts now.

Contributing to the renewed increase are forecasts of colder temperatures across Europe the climate had hitherto been particularly mild (indeed surprisingly mild). The lowering of the temperatures will therefore affect the inventories of the individual countries, which will result in the price increase. A price increase that again plays out in favor of Vladimir Putin, who is financing much of his invasion of Ukraine with the commodity.
