The accident happened around 3pm in a wooded area near the Route du Jeu in this small commune 80km north of Gaspé.
The young man, who was driving a snowmobile at the time, was thrown from his snowmobile before hitting a tree head-on. It was a second snowmobiler who was with him and contacted emergency services.
The victim was transported to a hospital in the region before being flown to a hospital in Quebec, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Nicolas Scholtus said. However, his current condition is unknown.
According to the state police, this could be about speed. In addition, the snowmobile driver was not wearing a helmet during the swerve.
