The gaucho Maria Brechane19 years old, will represent Brazil in the 72nd edition of the competition Miss Universe this coming Saturday. The final will take place at 10 p.m. (Brasília time) at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador.
The model, born in the city of Rio Grande, reaches the final with a mission to bring the country the crown after 55 years. The last Brazilian to win the competition was Martha Vasconcellos from Bahia in 1968.
The finale of the event will consist of the following steps: Announcement of the top 20; Swimsuit Parade; Top 10 Announcement; gala costume parade; Top 5 Announcement; Interview with the finalists; Announcement of the top 3, questions for the finalists and coronation.
Miss Universe judges contestants through personal statements and interviews, as well as party wear and swimwear competitions. Around 90 women from all over the world are taking part in this edition.

Contestants have been in custody since early November and this week passed through key stages of the competition’s preliminary rounds, which include interviews and parades in swimsuits and formal wear before judges.
In addition to Maria Brechane, the candidates also include Miss Angola, Chile, Miss Universe Lebanon, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.
