The authorities of the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), denounced this Tuesday that the area is experiencing a “catastrophe” and warned that the entry of hundreds of trucks with humanitarian aid was necessary to help the local population “recovered.” The director of the Gaza Government Information Office, Islamil al Zauabta, pointed out in an interview with the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera that for 50 days “not a single drop of fuel has entered Gaza or the northern part of the Gaza Strip.” . “. “The occupation forces want to expel the citizens of the region and the north of the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire has shown the great destruction suffered, particularly in Gaza City and the north of the enclave,” he stressed, before calling on the international community to help the entry of fuel. In this sense, he pointed out that “the failure to introduce fuel represents a major catastrophe” and stressed that “the health sector has completely collapsed”. “We need equipment and mechanisms for civil defense as well as medical supplies,” he said, before explaining that Al Shifa Hospital, the largest health complex in the region, requires 12,000 liters of fuel per day to function properly. “Hundreds of trucks have to enter the country for several weeks. The wheel of life has stopped in Gaza and we are facing catastrophe,” he concluded. On the same Tuesday, the Palestinian factions called for a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and thanked the authorities of Egypt and Qatar for their role in mediating between the parties to achieve an extension of the ceasefire with Israel, according to information from the Palestinian newspaper “Filastin”, linked to Hamas. “We ask our brothers in Egypt to accept a larger number of the wounded so that they can have access to medical treatment. We continue to see violations of the temporary ceasefire by the occupation and demand that they be forced to stop,” he said.
