Tyler Christopher, who starred on “General Hospital” for 20 years, has died. He was 50.
Linda Rohe, Mr. Christopher’s representative, said he died Oct. 31 of a heart attack at his San Diego home.
His former “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard wrote on Instagram that Mr. Christopher “enjoyed bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting.” Benard also praised his commitment to speaking openly about his struggles with bipolar disorder, depression and alcohol.
“Tyler was a truly talented individual who lit up the screen in every scene he played,” he said.
Four years ago, Mr. Christopher was seriously injured in a fall while withdrawing from alcohol, Bloomberg reported.
His marriage to actress Eva Longoria, which lasted from 2002 to 2004, ended in divorce. In 2008 he married sports reporter Brienne Pedigo, with whom he had two children. They divorced in 2021.
Born on November 11, 1972, Mr. Christopher played the lead role of Greek Prince Nikolas Cassadine on the long-running soap opera “General Hospital” in three different roles: 1996 to 1999, 2003 to 2011 and 2013 to 2016. The character has been portrayed by several actors , since Mr. Christopher first played him in 1996.
From 2004 to 2005, Mr. Christopher played another character, Connor Bishop, who plans to impersonate Cassadine.
After “General Hospital,” he starred in “Days of Our Lives” from 2017 to 2019. He also starred in the ABC Family series The Lying Game from 2011 to 2013 and made guest appearances on TV series such as Charmed and Charmed. The Twilight Zone.”
He has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy five times, winning in 2016 for his work on “General Hospital.”
Mr. Christopher’s manager, Chi Muoi Lo, said he was a “very talented actor and, more importantly, a great friend.”
“This news was incredibly shocking and I am devastated by his loss,” he said.
