George Clooney has revealed details about the late Matthew Perry.

In an interview with Deadline on Tuesday (December 19, 2023), the Ocean's Eleven actor recalled that Matthew Perry always dreamed of landing a role in a sitcom. “I knew Matt when he was 16. “We played paddle tennis together,” he said. He is about 10 years younger than me. And he was a great boy, funny, funny, funny. He was a kid and all he said to us, I mean me, Richard Kind and Grant Heslov, was, “I just want to be on a sitcom, man.” I just want to be on a regular sitcom and be the happiest man in the world.'”
But even after landing the role of Chandler Bing on “Friends,” which he played from 1994 to 2004, he still didn't feel fulfilled, the 62-year-old noted.
“He probably got caught in one of the best cases [sitcom] of all time, the ER star noted. He wasn't happy. It brought him no joy, no happiness, no peace. And we watched it unfold on set, we were at Warner Brothers, we were sitting there next to each other, it was hard to watch because we didn't know what he was going through. We just knew he wasn’t happy.”
The 54-year-old actor was found lifeless in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in late October. On December 15, investigators from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office concluded that the actor's death was an accident caused by the “acute effects of ketamine.” The report states that Matthew Perry, who had long struggled with depression and addiction, was prescribed ketamine to treat depression and anxiety.
