George Santos STANDS DOWN from committees over made-up past

Republican fabulist George Santos RISES BACK from committees over made-up past after meeting Kevin McCarthy, and new poll shows 78% of his New York voters want him OUT

  • Embattled Republican Rep. George Santos told colleagues Tuesday morning that he would step down from serving on House committees
  • Santos is under fire for making up most of his backstory – with calls for his resignation
  • A typical punishment for members who misbehave is having their committee duties removed

Long Island liar Rep. George Santos told fellow Republicans Tuesday morning that he was retiring from House committees after fabricating much of his biography.

“He just felt that the situation was really that dramatic, and particularly what we are doing to remove Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee,” Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told reporters as she exited the meeting . “But Mr. Santos’ testimony in it was only that he spoke to Speaker McCarthy and made that decision himself.”

Santos has been under fire since December after the New York Times initially reported he lied on his campaign website, where he attended college and worked for top financial firms including Citigroup and Goldman Sach.

From there, his backstory unraveled.

Newsday and Siena College polls showed that 78 percent of New York voters believe Santos should resign.

While lawmakers can be expelled from Congress, the more typical punishment for misbehaving members was to have them stripped of their committee assignments.

During the last convention, Democrats voted to remove Greene and Paul Gosar from committees after their social media posts showed violence against Democratic members, including then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez .

At the start of the new GOP-led Congress, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy unilaterally removed Democratic Representatives Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee.

He justified the action by saying that Schiff, the former chairman of the Intelligence Committee, lied about Russiagate and Hunter Biden’s laptop while pointing to Swalwell’s involvement with an alleged Chinese spy.

Schiff said he was being punished for his role in the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump.

Republicans are also trying to push Omar, one of the members of the so-called progressive “squad” from the House Foreign Affairs Committee, over previous comments she made about Israel that were widely interpreted as anti-Semitic.

In all three cases, Democrats said it was hypocritical to prosecute their members and allow Santos to serve on the Science, Space and Technology Committee and the Small Business Committee.
