Geraldo Matheus, theater director and father of actress Christiane Torloni, died

The actor and theater director Geraldo Matheus Torloni died this Friday the 29th in Rio de Janeiro. He was the father of the actress Christiane Torloni. The cause of death would have been natural causes.

Geraldo Matheus turned 93 on the 13th and was hospitalized in Rio for three weeks. The wake took place this Saturday in Rio in a ceremony reserved for relatives and friends.

Christiane Torloni paid tribute to her father in a post on social media. “I say goodbye to my beloved father Geraldo Matheus, grateful for the beautiful journey we have taken together. Grateful for the art, ethics and love he blessed me with. And as Oscar Wilde says, ‘The mystery of love is bigger than that.’ Mystery of Death,’” he wrote.

The actor and director was one of the first students at the School of Dramatic Art in São Paulo in the 1940s and director of the Theatro Municipal do Rio and the Bloch Theater in the capital Rio de Janeiro.

He is survived by his wife Monah Delacy, two children, Christiane Torloni and Márcio Torloni, a grandson and a greatgrandchild.
