Gérard Depardieu looked in good spirits as he entered the premiere of his latest film Umami (The Taste of Small Things) in Berlin, Germany on Thursday.

The French actor, 74, wore a sleek black coat and light blue silk scarf as he posed for snaps at the event in town.

He waved to fans and posed with director Slony Sow before they both later took the stage.

In the film, Gerard plays a leading French chef who devotes his life to finding a taste that has baffled him ever since he was beaten with a bowl of noodles by a Japanese chef at a young age.

In September, Juliette recalled an ugly confrontation with Gerard after he branded her “nothing” in a scathing interview in 2010.

The 58-year-old actress opened up about her turbulent relationship with her fellow French actor in a new interview with The Guardian.

Juliette claimed the actor “slapped me in the face with a fist,” but it’s believed the French star meant the phrase as an expression of shock rather than a physical incident.

Juliette recalled the Last Metro star publicly saying she was “absolutely nothing” and had nothing “for her”.

Of their confrontation, Juliette said, “About three months after he made those statements, I met him on the street and said, ‘Gérard – why were you being so mean to me?'” He said, “Oh, forget it, I’m saying stupid things. Do not take it personally.”

“I told him, ‘Okay, but at the end of the day I had to deal with this. And it’s really not cool.” He said, “Well, I’m just upset with the directors you work with.”

“I think he was jealous because I had just received the award at Cannes. He was hurt because I made him deal with too many things.’

She revealed they met when she was 17 because Gerard was working on the 1983 film Danton with a family friend, saying: “So he was such an important character in my life. And all these years later, he’s… how do you say it?”

The publication reports that she then mimicked a fist to her face when the journalist asked if she meant a punch.

Juliette replied: “Yes! He hit me in the face with his fist. And it hurt me.’

Gerard’s rep told Web that Juliette used a French expression that “means she was stunned by Gérard’s words”. They added: “He never hit Juliette Binoche.”

At the time, Web asked representatives of Juliette for comment.
