Following searches of the homes of several members of the climate activist group “Last Generation” in Germany two weeks ago, the group urged people to come forward. According to their own statements, 1,332 people responded to the call. The group itself announced that it informed the public prosecutor of the city of Neuruppin (Brandenburg) during the holidays that it considered itself part of the “last generation”.
The group assumes that the Basic Law, human rights and the penal code are on their side. The self-disclosures are intended to speed up the full exam. The German public prosecutor accuses them of forming or supporting a criminal organization. It now remains to be seen whether “house searches will continue” for the 1,332 people, the group said.
