More than thirty people were injured “including ten seriously” in Paderborn, a city in western Germany crossed by a “tornado,” a police spokesman said on Friday, May 20.
The tornado also caused extensive property damage in the medium-sized city in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was badly hit by the storm currently sweeping Germany, which began after unusually high temperatures for the season. Several videos broadcast on social networks testify to the violence of the phenomenon.

According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, the town of Lippstadt, about thirty kilometers away, was probably hit by a tornado without any injuries being reported at that time.
Bad weather has wreaked havoc in this region of western Germany, and police have reported countless roofs being torn off and trees uprooted. Train traffic is also severely disrupted and the police have called on residents to stay at home. The storm is expected to expand eastward later in the evening.
