At least two people died in a knife attack on a regional train in Germany. According to the German police, the alleged perpetrator was arrested and the train shut down. The motive for the attack is currently unknown.

According to the magazine Der Spiegel, the incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. near the town of Brokstedt on board a train between Hamburg and Kiel. Five other people were injured in the attack.

Trains canceled on main routes

A large number of police vehicles and ambulances are deployed around the station, according to photos published by the daily Bild. Deutsche Bahn has announced that trains on main routes are canceled.

German authorities have remained vigilant in the face of the jihadist threat in recent years, particularly since a ramming truck attack claimed by the Islamic State group killed 12 in December 2016 in Berlin. This jihadist attack is the deadliest ever perpetrated on German soil.

Another threat looms over Germany, embodied by the extreme right, after several deadly attacks in recent years targeting community or religious sites.
