Germany calls on the heads of state and government of the Western Balkans to overcome internal conflicts for the stability of the region and the common goal of joining the European Union.
The Berlin conference aims to strengthen the ambitions of Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania to join the Community Club.
“The citizens of the Western Balkans can count on Germany and rely on the Berlin process to continue to support them. Only together can we work for a more sovereign European Union. Only together can we protect European values and the rule of law.” And only together will we master the enormous challenges facing our continent and the world,” said Olaf Scholz.
But the Chancellor insists that “the appropriate efforts” must first be made and warned against any rapprochement with Russia.
Countries are expected to sign agreements to facilitate regional travel and mutual recognition of degrees. But there are deep divisions between some of them, notably Serbia and Kosovo, that need to be bridged before EU membership becomes a reality.
