State Councilor Werner Amon invited a “hand-picked group” of guests to his “political coming” at Deutschlandsberg Castle on Friday evening. The ÖVP politician living in the region sees his annual meeting of the non-partisan network as a political assessment – and this time too he managed to gather a first-class group in the cellar under the castle restaurant. Above all, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn, who, before his final year in the power center of Brussels, found words of warning about the situation on the continent. “Europe has historically remained in three comfort zones,” said the Commissioner for Finance and Human Resources. But in the future we can no longer rely on cheap energy, cheap technology from the Far East and the USA as military insurance. The EU must therefore focus on research, development and innovation and also strengthen the circular economy in order to reduce its dependence on raw materials from other economic areas.
