Gerry Scotti guest on “You have mail”: “They asked me for my mother’s coffin for autographs”

Yesterday last episode of “You have mail” with Maria De Filippi, who has returned to television after the death of Maurizio Costanzo. The evening’s super guest was his friend and colleague Gerry Scotti, who will co-host “Striscia la Notia” with Francesca Manzini starting next Monday (the couple will remain at the forefront of Antonio Ricci’s satirical news until Saturday, April 1). The conductor told what happened when his mother died about thirty years ago. “I went to the morgue – he recalled – I was already Gerry Scotti, I was already famous and recognizable, and almost everyone stopped in front of my mother’s coffin to ask for my autograph. At some point I got nervous. I wanted to say no, but then I thought my mother didn’t want it,” she said through tears.

An episode reminiscent of what happened to Maria De Filippi, with the selfies requested by fans in front of Costanzo’s coffin. However, it was just a coincidence: the episode of the program was actually recorded before the journalist died. Between tears and emotions, “You’ve Got Mail” closed with record ratings: an average of 4 million 388 thousand viewers, which corresponds to a share of 29 percent (with peaks of 5.5 million and 40 percent). On Rai1, the finale of «The Voice Kids» reached 3 million 510 thousand viewers, which is 22.7 percent. Summing up the 26th edition of the historic program hosted by De Filippi, the director of Canale 5 commented in a note: “Maria De Filippi has the gift of entering people’s hearts; arouse affection and closeness; to cross the screen and become part of viewers’ daily lives. C’è posta per te, the cornerstone of Mediaset’s flagship publishing offering, with ratings that go beyond the definition of excellent to convey value and interest, tells the world of emotions and feelings with unique grace and integrity. So thanks again Maria, unique and second to none. And thanks also to all the professionals involved in the realization of the cult program of Canale 5, Fascino and Mediaset. Well done!”.
