Gestures of a sexual nature: Former “Sags” Carl Latulippe will be heard in March

Nearly a year after Carl Latulippe filed a class action lawsuit against the Maritimes Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and its teams for sexual acts committed against him, he will be able to answer to a judge on June 19.

The Quebecer filed his $15 million lawsuit in April 2023, claiming he and young players were mistreated by veterans in his first training camp with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in 1994.

TSN journalist Rick Westhead reported Thursday that Latulippe will meet with a judge in Quebec and the judge will decide whether to initiate a class-action lawsuit. The QMJHL has hired an attorney to investigate the alleged victim's comments. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) is also affected by the original request.

Latulippe said he and other recruits were beaten with bars of soap in towels and also forced to watch pornography and masturbate on the team bus in the presence of adult coaches.

In May, the former player's lawyer, Me David Stolow, expressed confidence that the Quebec judge would move forward with the class action lawsuit, which several other people were eager to join. The evidence was accepted by Ontario Judge Paul Perrell.
