Ready, not ready, winter arrives Thursday in Quebec with snow and possibly ice.
Nearly 5 cm of snow is expected to fall in the southern part of the province Thursday morning, Environment Canada said in a special weather bulletin issued Wednesday.
Snow is expected to turn to rain later today as temperatures rise. However, “during this transition period there is a risk of freezing precipitation,” the federal agency said.
While we are forecasting an accumulation of 5 cm of snow in Montreal, we should expect between 2 and 4 cm in Quebec.
In certain areas such as Témiscamingue, up to 10 cm of snow could fall by Thursday evening.
However, winter will not finally arrive as milder temperatures are expected across the province in the coming days, said Simon Legault, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
“It’s more like the first snowfall of the fall,” he said, adding that the snow is expected to melt in the following days, especially in Montreal, where temperatures are expected to reach 6°C on Friday.
Be careful on the roads
Drivers should exercise caution when traveling as the road surface may be slippery due to snow and ice, especially during Thursday morning rush hour.
Even though it has already snowed, many drivers have not yet had their winter tires fitted. You therefore have until December 1st to do this.
