Get your shovels! Southern Quebec will be hit by a storm from Sunday to Monday

Quebecers will have to arm themselves with shovels as about six inches of snow is expected to fall in the south of the province.

Environment Canada says extreme southern Quebec is expected to initially see a mix of precipitation with freezing drizzle or freezing rain during the day, while snow should begin falling Sunday evening.

“Significant amounts of snow could fall in southern Quebec starting Sunday evening. Although temperatures are near freezing, it is possible that amounts may reach or exceed 15 centimeters,” the federal agency said.

Gatineau was expected to see between 6 and 8 inches of snow accumulation beginning Sunday afternoon. “The heaviest snow may fall at a rate of 2 to 4 cm per hour,” says a special weather bulletin from Environment Canada.

Road conditions could be affected by rapid snow accumulation, particularly during Monday morning rush hour. Drivers therefore need to be patient and plan their trips in urban areas.
