The new look of Samsung’s $499 phone makes it look more like a premium device.
THE Samsung Galaxy A54 5G To much in common with its predecessor. It costs 499€ and starts on April 6th. It brings a new design, a new processor and a new camera to the program.
This visual overhaul seems to be the biggest change. This might not matter much if you’re planning on putting a case on your device, but it does suggest that Samsung is doing more to narrow the gaps between its high-end devices and its cheaper devices. This could be particularly important if Samsung wants to catch up Google Pixel 6aone of the benchmarks in the middle class.

The Galaxy A54 5G has features with new paintwork giving it a more upscale look than that Galaxy A53 from last year. The glossy back and matte edges remind us of theiPhone 11And that’s good.
The integration of photo sensors is inspired by what can be found on the Galaxy S23 series. Looks aren’t the most important aspect of a phone, but it’s always nice to see a sub-$500 device that doesn’t look cheap.
It almost feels like Samsung is taking design cues from Google. The $459 Pixel 6a, which is essentially a cheaper version of the Pixel6, also has a glossy finish. And like the Galaxy A54 5G, the Pixel 6a has its photo sensors in the same way as its predecessor.
The Galaxy A54 5G has a 6.4 inch screen, making it slightly smaller than the 6.5-inch Galaxy A53 5G. We always thought this size was a good compromise between that Galaxy S23 6.1-inch and the 6.6-inch Galaxy S23 Plus, and the same goes for the Galaxy A54.

The Galaxy A54 5G runs on a newer processor than the A53 5G Exynos 1380, which is probably the successor to the Exynos 1280 featured in the latter. We haven’t spent enough time with the Galaxy A54 5G to know if this new chip brings significant improvements. But during our brief visit to the device, the services seemed to us quite correct. Apps open and close quickly, the camera launches almost instantly, and the keyboard pops up right away.

There are many differences between Samsung’s affordable A-series phones and the high-end S-series phones, with camera equipment still being the biggest. The Galaxy A54 5G comes along 50 megapixel main sensor, 12 megapixel ultra wide angle and 5 megapixel macro. There’s no telephoto lens, so the Galaxy A54 only has 5G 10x digital zoom.
The Galaxy S23, on the other hand, offers a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. While wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle look similar on paper, we wouldn’t be surprised to see noticeable differences in image quality. the chips Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 The S23 range, which has been optimized for Samsung’s Galaxy phones, probably plays a big role in handling photos.

Samsung’s Expert Raw app cannot be used on the Galaxy A54 5G either. However, the photo configuration is what you would expect from a phone at this price point. It has even more to offer than thatiPhone SE 2022 for €529, which only has a 12-megapixel rear sensor with 5x digital zoom.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy A54 appears to be 5G a promising option for anyone looking for an Android phone under $500. But we’ll have to spend more time testing it before we know if it’s worth recommending.
