Giamattei Takes A Stand For Multilateralism And Cooperation

Santo Domingo, March 25 (EFE) Financial challenges raised at the regional meeting.

The Guatemalan President was represented at this forum by his Foreign Minister Mario Búcaro, who presented a video in which Giammattei reviewed the aspects in which his country is working to achieve the goals of the summit.

This event “represents a privileged platform to help build a constructive relationship between us. Guatemala is a country committed to multilateralism and therefore we must prepare for the future in a challenging environment and see the Iberoamerican region as a reliable one partner,” he said.

Regarding the environment, Giammattei highlighted the reforestation programs launched by his country and the implementation of forestry incentive schemes that invest in producers, “bringing additional economic benefits to Guatemalan families.”

Also for the preservation of protected areas, Guatemala has developed several conservation tools, measures to protect marine and coastal ecosystems.

On food security, the Guatemalan president expressed his country’s “firm commitment” to working together to “end hunger”.

Giammattei delved into the digital rights charter presented at this summit and called for it to be approached in a responsible way by the Iberoamerican community “with a human perspective and with an emphasis on prevention”.

In this sense, he called for prioritizing “respect for human rights in a secure digital environment, combating disinformation, combating cybercrime, hate speech and ensuring freedom of expression”.

In addition, he stressed that both triangular and South-South cooperation “represent key elements for development as a complement to, and not a substitute for, traditional cooperation,” and for this reason he encouraged work on a proposal “that would systems strengthens”. EFE
