Giants News, 8/20: Evan Neal, vanishing offensive line, more headlines

Good morning New York Giants fans!

2022 NFL rookies who disappointed in training camp, preseason |

Bleacher Reports uses Nick Falato’s Big Blue View breakdown of some of Neal’s boot camp reps to – inappropriately – slam the rookie the right tackle.

Valentine’s Day View: This is a classic case of a writer – in this case Alex Kay of Bleacher Report – basing something on what he read rather than what he saw or observed. Yes, Neal fought in 1-on-1s early in camp, and yes, on August 4th, Nick pointed out some of his fights.

However, it is more than two weeks later. Yes, Neal sometimes loses a rep to Kayvon Thibodeaux, Azeez Ojulari or another pass rusher, but that’s supposed to happen. These guys are good players. We would all wonder what would happen if Thibodeaux in particular never won replays.

Giants grappling with a spate of injuries at center | New York Post

Due to injuries at center, quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley may not play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

A name the Chicago Bears could pounce on during Final Cuts | Chicago sports news

It’s Darius Slayton, of course.

Though no one would accuse him of being a star, the veteran was relatively prolific in his first three seasons, averaging 610 yards and four touchdowns a year. Much of his regression over the past year wasn’t his fault. It had a lot to do with injuries at the quarterback position (Daniel Jones missed six games) and playing under three different offensive coordinators in three years. He never had a chance to find his way.

The Chicago Bears could offer him a chance for a fresh start. Not only that, they have another benefit as well. Tyke Tolbert is their wide receivers coach. He was with the Giants in 2019 when they drafted Slayton. He played a crucial role in the development of the young pass catcher. A reunion could help make the transition as smooth as possible. Poland needs options on the position. He could do a lot worse than Slayton.

Tyrod Taylor keeps proving his worth against Giants | New York Post

Taylor had a good stock. And he smells good.
