EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Brian Daboll moved quickly to fill one of the vacancies on his coaching staff when he named Carmen Bricillo as the Giants' new offensive line coach today.
Bricillo has been a coach for 20 years, including five years in the NFL. Like Daboll, he has ties to Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.
Bricillo was the O-line coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022-23 and the Patriots in the two seasons before that.
Only 11 teams allowed fewer sacks in 2023 than the Raiders' 40 in 2023.
In his first season with the Raiders in 2022, Bricillo led an offensive line unit that allowed just 35 sacks, which was ninth-fewest in the NFL. Bricillo's unit also helped the Raiders' offense rack up 2,059 yards, the most in a single season since 2011. Raiders rushers were stopped for a loss or gain 68 times in 2022, an NFL low, and Josh Jacobs led the league with 1,653 yards.
Bricillo entered the NFL in 2019 as an assistant coach before taking over as the Patriots' line coach in 2020-21. During his tenure there, the Patriots won an AFC East title and made two playoff appearances.
In 2021, Bricillo helped the Patriots finish eighth in the NFL in rushing yards per game (126.5) and sixth in points per game (27.2). Running back Damien Harris set a career-high with 202 carries for 929 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns, the latter ranking second in the NFL and second in franchise history. The Patriots recorded 24 rushing touchdowns behind Bricillo's line in 2021, a mark that represents the third-most in franchise history.
Bricillo helped the Patriots finish fourth in the NFL with 146.6 rushing yards per game in 2020, their highest average since 1983.
Bricillo served as the offensive line coach at Youngstown State University for nine years from 2010 to 2018. He coached 15 All-Missouri Valley Conference selections and the Penguins reached the 2016 NCAA FCS National Championship Game. His line helped the offense achieve multiple school seasons during his tenure, including total yards (6,766 in 2016), yards per game (458, 6 in 2011), rushing yards (3,883 in 2016), completion percentage (64.2 percent in 2011) and passing yards (2,883 in 2016), passing touchdowns (27 in 2011) and points per game (36 ,2 in 2011).
Prior to Youngstown State, Bricillo spent the 2009 season as an offensive assistant supporting the offensive line at Illinois. He was director of video services at Akron in 2006 and an assistant coach from 2007 to 2008, where he worked with tackles and tight ends.
Bricillo began his college coaching career in 2005 at his alma mater, Duquesne, as an offensive line coach.
Bricillo is from Shelocta, Pennsylvania. At Duquesne, he played center and was selected to the first team all-conference in 1995 and 1996. Bricillo and his wife Megan have one daughter, Rilyn.
Bricillo replaces Bobby Johnson, who was fired Monday after two seasons as the Giants' offensive line coach.
Daboll has several other open positions to fill, including defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, running backs coach, outside linebackers coach, defensive assistant and a director of strength and performance.
