Gigi Hadid has been criticized for comparing the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Hadid, who is Palestinian, made the connection by announcing on Sunday that she would donate her Paris Fashion Week earnings to help Ukraine.
“I pledge to donate my proceeds from the show in the fall of 2022 to help those who are suffering from the war in Ukraine, and also to continue to support those who are experiencing the same in Palestine,” she wrote in a post on her Instagram.
She added: “Our eyes and hearts must be open to any human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. IN [sic] After all, it is innocent lives that pay for war, not leaders. HANDS AGAINST UKRAINE. HANDS AGAINST PALESTINE. PEACE. PEACE. PEACE.”
But several critics were quick to accuse the 26-year-old Hadid of comparing tragedies abroad.
“When Israel is portrayed as a despot, Jews all over the world pay the price. The numbers don’t lie: anti-Israel messages directly lead to anti-Semitic attacks around the world,” says Hasbara Fellowships Canada, which supports pro-Israel supporters on college campuses. tweeted in response to a post by Hadid.

Vogue’s Instagram and Twitter were also inundated with messages of disapproval after the magazine posted a tweet by Hadid on its Instagram account on Sunday.
“I can’t believe @voguemagazine is supporting this false and dangerous narrative… ‘experiencing the same thing in Palestine,’ well done @voguemagazine fanning the flames of anti-Semitism,” commented former Entourage star Emmanuelle Chriqui.
“It is completely irresponsible for @voguemagazine to publish a quote comparing Russia’s actions in Ukraine with Israel. As a Jewess, I am shocked and scared. Do your research before posting hate. You are promoting anti-Semitism,” a reader tweeted.
“So you are saying that Israel is like Russia? This is absurd and misleading. So ridiculous for you to take an antisemitic stance @voguemagazine… No connection here,” wrote another on Instagram.
Despite the backlash, Hadid received support from some designers and fellow models. Peter White
“Experience the same in Palestine” is complete nonsense and falsehood. Please stop supporting anti-Semitism,” agreed another Instagram user.
On Tuesday, Vogue edited the headline to remove all references to Palestine after the criticism.
A source at Vogue told Page Six on Tuesday that Vogue “condemns anti-Semitism” and that their Instagram post “directly quotes [Hadid]and has since been updated.
Others, however, supported Hadid’s stance and praised her for bringing attention to Palestine, including designers Philippe Lim, Diane von Furstenberg and Donatella Versace, and model Elsa Hosk.
A rep for Hadid did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
